Data Scanner Set For October 21, 2012 Release!

Things are getting crazy at Pine Point Mobile Solutions. We are making final preparations for the release of our first application, Data Scanner on October 21. We are doing final testing, writing developer documentation, preparing press materials and (of course) updating our website. We are very excited about the release of Data Scanner. We feel that it is an application that can be of great use to small businesses who are looking for a barcode scanning solution. With a minimum of development work, it can become a powerful custom barcode scanning solution for any small business. Very shortly (hopefully before release) we will be posting the necessary developer information on the Downloads page of our website. Developers will be able to go their to download the .NET class library as well as documentation for .NET and Android development. We are also excited about the $2.99 price. We feel that this provides businesses with a low cost alternative to much more expensive handheld barcode scanners. If your business already has an Android device, the $2.99 price is a huge bargain. Data Scanner will be sold exclusively on Google Play.

How Does the Scanner Work in Data Scanner?

Posted by Philip Foster on October 8, 2012 at 7:05 AM Comments comments (0)

Data Scanner does not have its own built in scanner. This is an advantage for users. A user is able to select the scanner they choose to use. If a user has a particular scanner on their device that they like, they can use Data Scanner with that scanner. It may even be that a user wants to use one scanner in certain situations and another scanner in another situation. Data Scanner makes this possible. If a user does not have a bar code scanner on their device, Data Scanner will prompt the user to download a scanner. This should not cost the user anything additional as their are many free bar code scanners available for Android. At Pine Point Mobile Solutions, we hope that our users enjoy the flexibility provided by this feature of Data Scanner.

Data Scanner For Software Developers

Posted by Philip Foster on October 5, 2012 at 5:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Software developers will be able to create applications to access Data Scanner's data. On our website developers will be able to download everythng they need to develop for Data Scanner in .NET and Android. For .NET developers there will be a complete class library. This class library will access the text file created by the export option in Data Scanner. Once the data is downloaded, it can be manipulated as needed on a Windows computer. For example, download the data and then use the bar code values to look up information in a custom database.

For Android developers, Data Scanner comes with a Content Provider. Use this content provider to access (and process) Data Scanner's data right on the Android device. As with the .NET library, developers can use this to give end users the ability to lookup bar code information in a custom database.

Here at Pine Point Mobile Solutions, we feel that this is one of the best features of Data Scanner. This is what sets it apart from other mobile device scanners. Most mobile device scanners will only look up known information for bar codes. With Data Scanner it is possible (with a little development) to look up proprietary information. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for developers and small businesses. Create your own custom bar codes and then scan them with Data Scanner. Use those scans to retrieve any kind of data you wish.

As with the release of Data Scanner, stay tuned for the release of the development tools. We are planning to release the development tools before we release Data Scanner.

The help for Data Scanner is complete.  We are now in marketing mode.  We have added a Twitter button to the website (home screen).  Very shortly we will be adding a button to Like us on Facebook.  We already have a Facebook page.  We simply have not had a chance (yet) to add the Like button to our website.  We have also updated the Forums on the website.  Once Data Scanner is released, the forums will be an excellent place to find information, post your feature requests and receive technical support for our applications.

We are hoping to announce a release date for Data Scanner sometime next week.  Please stay tuned.
